Training Programme - Wed 23 Jun 10

This Wednesday, the Squadron has been invited to attend an AIRBASE familiarisation tour and briefing. To ensure that we are not late at the venue, all cadets are to be at the squadron in time to be on parade at 1900hrs prompt. Following inspection, we will march round to the AIRBASE visitor center.

You may bring a camera/camcorder/dictaphone to record elements of the tour - the footage may be useful for future project work.

Unfortunately, RTF will have to miss the briefing this time round and concentrate on completing their Map Reading training prior to the DofE Expedition.

Dress: No2C (Working Blues).

Wing Field Day Results

The Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing Field Day was held at Gamecock Barracks, Bramcote, on Sunday 13 June. All the squadrons of the wing were competing, in the presence of AOC 22 (Training) Group, Air Vice-Marshal Mark Green RAF.

The squadron managed 'third' places in both the Senior Modeling and Diorama competitions. Cdt Coles's entry was a model of a De Havilland 'Mosquito' B Mk IV, painted in the colours of 627 Sqn. The diorama, which had to based on the theme 'The RAF in the Central and East Region', represented two of the world's most famous flying units - both of which have been based at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire - 617 (The Dambusters) Sqn, and The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (The Red Arrows). Teams were also entered for the Aircraft Recognition and First Aid competitions.

The Drill Team came in at a very respectable 6th place, lead by CWO Dalton who achieved 4th Place in the NCOs competition.

The big surprise came during the Final Parade and presentations, when it was announced that 84 Squadron had achieved 'Best Academic Squadron' in the Wing.

On behalf of the Cadets, I'd like to thank the staff for all the effort that has been put in to the training programme this year. And on behalf of the staff, our congratulations to the cadets on their results.

Training Programme - Sun 20 Jun 10

RTF will continue with Map Reading training. Everyone else will be checking and preparing expedition equipment.

Dress: No 2C (Working Blues).

Swimming Assessments

Following the parade, there will be an opportunity to complete an Air Cadet Basic Swimming Proficiency test at the Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre. Anyone wishing to undertake water-based adventure training must have completed this test - including those canoeing in July. Everyone is welcome, even if you hadn't put your name down in advance.

The test requires you to simply swim 50m, tread water for two minutes, then climb out of the side of the pool (unassisted, without steps). The test shouldn't take more than 5 minutes in total.

Transport from the Squadron will be provided, but cadets should arrange to be picked-up from the sports centre at 1330hrs. You will, obviously, need to bring swimming trunks/suit and towel.

RAF Presentation Team Evening

We have been invited to attend the RAF Presentation Team's Civic Presentation at The Royal Pump Rooms this Wednesday 16 June. We shall be taking the minibus and as many cadets as we can (who want to go!) on to the bus and additional staff cars if available.

Those who wish to go MUST be on the minibus at the Squadron by 1830hrs. We shall return to the Squadron for 2130hrs latest. Dress is No2 (Wedgewood Blues). IF it is easier for you to get to the venue than the Squadron, your parents may drop you off there between 1845 and 1900hrs, but you MUST email/call the Squadron before hand to let us know you're going straight there.

For those left behind, Off Cdt Robinson will be running an activity during normal parade hours.
