All in a Weekend's Hard Work!

Over a windy weekend in December, Air Cadets from 84 (Coventry Airport) Squadron worked hard helping to pack bags in Sainsbury's raising a staggering £1779 to help fund the exciting and diverse activities planned for 2014!!

The Cadets from 84 Squadron, based at Coventry Airport, have become festive regulars at their local Sainsbury's store in Kenilworth earning them an excellent reputation for their smart appearance, professional manner and dedicated work in assisting Christmas shoppers to pack their bags. Cadets manned the tills all day both Saturday and Sunday earning themselves a whopping £1779.87 which will be used to fund special projects such as a kayaking taster weekend, provide essential equipment for adventure training activities as well as contribute towards the upkeep and maintenance of the highly valuable Squadron-owned minibus which transports the cadets to and from their exciting adventures.

Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams RAFVR(T) who took over command of the squadron in July 2013  joined forces with many of the store's customers and the Sainsbury's staff in complementing the cadets on their exemplary and professional conduct throughout the weekend. “Not only do we provide a service for the public in helping with their shopping, the cadets help keep the queues to a minimum, thus allowing Sainsbury's staff to manage the store in the Christmas rush a lot easier. The Cadets did themselves and the organisation proud and they should feel extremely pleased with the amount raised.”

Cadets and staff from 84 Squadron would like to thank Sainsbury's for allowing them in store at such a busy time and look forward to future fundraising events in 2014.

Flight Path Protection Team Visit 84 Squadron

Air Cadets from 84 (Coventry Airport) Squadron were visited by Flight Path Protection Team, based at Birmingham Airport for an evening presentation

PCs Mitchell Granger and Ian Powell met staff and cadets at a local open day event held at the Coventry Aero Club earlier in 2013 and a visit was arranged for the team to present their work to the cadets and give an insight into a different aspect of the aviation world. Cadets were treated to an interactive presentation from both PCs Granger and Powell followed by a question & answer session. One lucky cadet, Joshua Evans, aged 13, was selected to help demonstrate some of the equipment the team are striving to prevent being used in attacks on in coming and out-going flights at Birmingham International Airport.
