International Women's Day 2017

Wednesday 08th March was International Women's Day and 84 (Coventry Airport) Squadron got involved by celebrating the amazing achievements of some inspirational women from the past and present.

Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Ros
ie Robinson set the cadets and staff a challenge of correctly identifying 40 women from across history and from all disciplines in a guess who game. Women were selected from various fields such as Science and Exploration, Politics and Business, Sport, Aviation and the Military and Academia. Their pictures were posted up around the classrooms and each cadet then received two names with a brief description on their arrival. Their task was to match the names to the faces with a little help from the staff team. Clues were given for some examples to assist them where needed. Included in the list were the current Commandant of the Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty who has been the head of the organisation since 2012 and will continue to develop and lead us through till 2020.

In a general discussion that followed, cadets were encouraged to identify other prominent and influential women who had perhaps inspired them personally or as a group. Some of these were women of international fame, others were less known and perhaps had personal reasons for being important to the cadets. The clear message that came from the activity was that women had an important role in defining who we are today and that there equality is stronger than ever and women are just as powerful as their male counterparts!

Here's just a selection of the photographs, how many of these can you identify?
